About the Position:

We seek an experienced policy research leader to drive and grow Burning Glass’s labor market research practice providing data-driven insights and thought leadership to national foundations, consulting firms, think tanks, educational institutions, and employers.  The successful candidate will manage an ambitious program that includes both proposing and delivering commissioned client studies and shaping and executing Burning Glass’s own highly respected thought leadership agenda.

He or she will have primary responsibility for expanding our research portfolio, leveraging Burning Glass’s unique data set to uncover cutting edge insights and to advance the company’s perspective on policy challenges in workforce and education. The ideal candidate has track record of producing influential research for a national audience, is a skilled writer and policy analyst, and is confident with a range of data analysis techniques. 

The Director will also bring substantial experience in business development.  He or she will be responsible for identifying and developing relationships with potential clients, partners, and sponsors in order to drive and grow a steady book of high impact projects. 

Responsibilities

  • Shape and execute Burning Glass’s thought leadership agenda, crafting a research program that illuminates key market trends.
  • Manage and expand Burning Glass’ commercial research business and serve as a primary point of contact for research partners and funders.
  • Conduct research which is analytically rigorous, articulately written and advances Burning Glass’s market authority.
  • Write both long form white papers and a number of smaller briefs and blog posts.
  • Manage and grow a team of data analysts, researchers and writers.
  • Coordinate with the communications team to generate media attention for research.
  • Present findings to external audiences at conferences, seminars, etc.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders including leadership of the communications, marketing, product and executive teams.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record leading nationally recognized policy research projects for consulting firms, think tanks, academic research centers, or other similar institutions.
  • Expertise in at least one of: higher education, labor market economics, or workforce policy.
  • Ability to conceptualize new research ideas and innovate new approaches to solving complex data challenges.
  • Experience in sales, fundraising and/or strategic partnership development
  • Experience managing diverse research teams
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Advanced degree in a social science such as economics or education or an MBA.

 

This positions reports to the Chief Analytics Officer and will coordinate closely with the leadership of Communications, Marketing and Product teams as well as with the CEO. To apply with your cover letter and resume.
